ENTRIES FOR DIE BURGER BOARDWALK MR PE NOW OPEN!

BY

Every year in June, a new Die Burger Boardwalk Mr PE gets chosen to represent the young men of the Nelson Mandela Metro. This prestigious title has increasingly grown in stature since its inception in 2001. The gala event is an undisputable highlight on the social calendar of the Eastern Cape.

Please be advised that this is not a modelling competition. The young gentleman chosen to fulfil the role of Mr PE is not only to be the most dashing of all, but more importantly a young man to whom the city’s youth can look up to. Past Mr PE’s have undoubtedly been much needed role models to the youth of the region. They were given building blocks and guidelines to further their careers and better their lives.

Die Burger Boardwalk Mr PE has a proud record of active involvement in social investment programmes in Port Elizabeth. The aim of the title is to embrace responsibility and encourage a positive impact through community activities.

The titleholder will support a variety of charitable organisations.  He will be responsible to garner pro-active community involvement and corporate social responsibility support for the chosen charities.

All funds raised through various fundraising endeavours under Die Burger Boardwalk Mr PE title are administered by the official Mr PE Trust.

VWSA’s AutoPavilion reaches significant milestone

BY VWSA

Volkswagen Group South Africa’s (VWSA) popular heritage centre - the AutoPavilion - celebrated 10 years of educating and enthralling visitors this past Saturday.
On 1 March 2004, VWSA opened the doors of the only automobile discovery centre in Africa and to date over 450 000 (454 710) school groups, students, foreign and local tourists have been arriving in their droves to enjoy the latest technology and edutainment offered at the AutoPavilion.
The AutoPavilion - the place of cars and legends - takes visitors through a journey of Volkswagen’s history in South Africa. The museum also features a collection of cars, including unique vehicles, high-tech prototypes and record breaking cars. Highlights include a cut-through Volkswagen Beetle that opens and closes, the Karmann Ghia, the last Volkswagen Citi Golf, the last Beetle manufactured in the Uitenhage plant, as well as 27 static and graphic displays and over 20 interactive exhibits.
“It is a remarkable achievement that the AutoPavilion has been providing motoring enthusiasts with the opportunity to learn more about Volkswagen and get to experience some of the great exhibits we have to offer, the AutoPavilion is truly a place of cars and legends”, says the AutoPavilion manager Buyile Gqubule.
Combined with an exciting FactoryTour twice a day, the AutoPavilion is the place to be for all motoring enthusiasts visiting Nelson Mandela Bay. Last year over 35 000 (37 408) people from all over the country and abroad experienced the thrill of a FactoryTour coupled with learning more about the largest automaker in Africa at the AutoPavilion.
The multi-million rand AutoPavilion has played host to some important visitors over the years like Alex Irwin (former Trade and Industry Minister), Prof Dr Martin Winterkorn (Chairman of the Board of Management of VWAG), Hubert Waltl (VWSA Chairman), Nosimo Balindlela (former Eastern Cape premier) and recently Jimmy Tau (former Bafana Bafana, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates player).
In celebration of the 10 year anniversary, all visitors to the AutoPavilion will get in for FREE during the month of March!
The AutoPavilion is open weekdays from 08:30 to 16:00. FactoryTour bookings can be made online at www.autopavilion.co.za, by e-mailing autopavilion@vwsa.co.za or by calling 041 994 5941.
