President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address to be screened live


The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM), Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and the Office of the Premier (OTP) will jointly host a live public screening of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Jacob Zuma on Thursday, 9 February 2012, starting at 18h00 (6pm), at the George Botha Sports Centre, KwaNoxolo, Port Elizabeth.


As part of this occasion, an expert panel, stakeholders and the public will engage with each other and reflect on the President’s Address.

Please note that the context and content thrust of the SONA are premised on government’s five key priorities, namely:

o    Education

o    Health

o    Decent work and sustainable livelihoods

o    Rural development and agrarian reform

o    Fight against crime


The draft programme is as follows:


18h00 – 18h05               Opening and Welcome by Chairperson

18h05 – 18h30               Panelists’ expectations of the SONA

18h30 – 18h55               Public’s expectations

19h00 – 20h00              State of the Nation Address by President Jacob Zuma

20h00 – 20h15               Perspective of Executive Mayor, Cllr Zanoxolo Wayile

20h15 – 20h30               Reflections by panelists

20h30                           Inputs by and engagement with public
